CNN BREAKING NEWS: BP Claims To Have Stopped Oil From Flowing Into the Gulf

Part of a Testing Procedure Over The Next 48 Hours...May Have To UnCap Well

BP says no more oil going into Gulf

NEW ORLEANS — BP says oil has stopped leaking into the Gulf for the first time since April.

BP has been slowly dialing down the flow as part of a test on a new cap. Engineers are now monitoring the pressure to see if the busted well holds.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — BP engineers were back to the slow work of trying to choke the Gulf of Mexico oil gusher Thursday with an untested cap, slowly dialing down the flow.

The latest step — just like other developments in the monthslong environmental crisis will take several hours to complete. If it works, BP believes no oil will be leaking into the water for the first time.

Engineers got to work after replacing a leaky pipe. Kent Wells, a BP PLC vice president, said at a news briefing in Houston that the leak was found on the side of the towering, 75-ton capping stack and it was fixed by replacing the assembly, called a "choke line."

The work sent the oil giant back to restarting preparations for testing whether the cap can stop the oil without blowing a new leak in the well. If it works, the cap will be a temporary fix until BP can drill into the gusher to plug it for good from underground, where the seal will hold better.

"Bear with us," Wells said.

With the disaster nearly three months old, the man in charge of the $20 billion fund set up by BP to pay individuals and business for their losses said it will start making payments in early August.

Ken Feinberg, who was in charge of the compensation paid to families of victims in the Sept. 11 terrorists attacks, told a meeting of government officials in Louisiana that he expected a seamless transition from BP management of claims to his administration.

On the Gulf seabed, the leak was discovered after two of the three valves on the cap that can open or shut the device had been closed, bringing BP and government scientists, who are also watching, tantalizingly close to starting a 48-hour test of how the well and cap withstand the pressure.

Wells had warned that the process of getting ready and then choking the oil a mile below the sea, at a depth only submarine robots can reach, consisted of many precise, individual steps.

"Any one of these steps can take longer than anticipated," Wells said Wednesday, before the leak disrupted work.

Retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the Obama administration's point man on the disaster, said at a briefing it's not clear yet whether the cap, which was mounted on the well Monday, will ultimately be used to shut in the oil or to channel it through pipes to collection ships overhead.

"I have a high degree of confidence we can substantially decrease the oil coming into the environment," Allen said.

The cap remains a temporary fix, he said, until one of two relief wells BP is drilling can reach the gusher underground and plug it permanently with heavy drilling mud and cement.

"Make no mistake, the number one goal is to kill the well ... to stop it at the source," he said.

The test will involve closing off all three openings in the cap to the Gulf, in theory stopping the oil leaking into the Gulf. BP will be monitoring pressure under the cap. High pressure is good, because it shows there's only a single leak. Low pressure, below 6,000 pounds per square inch or so, could mean more leaks farther down in the well.

BP expects to keep the oil trapped in the cap for 48 hours before it decides if the approach is working.

With the leaking pipe replaced, BP had to start from a few steps back to resume preparations for the test.

Preparations included letting more oil pour out of the cap temporarily and turning off a pipe that had been sending some of the oil to a collection ship, so that the full force of all the erupting crude would go into the cap. Engineers also had to recheck equipment and move undersea robots that perform the work back into position.

Wells was hesitant to give a firm timeframe for when the test could start, but expected it to be Thursday.

"We're going to keep moving forward with this," Wells said.

Allen said a committee of scientists and engineers will monitor the results and assess every six hours, and end the test after 48 hours to evaluate the findings.

"I was gung-ho for this test and I remain gung-ho for this test," he said Wednesday.

If the cap works, it will enable BP to stop the oil from gushing into the sea, either by holding all the oil inside the well machinery like a stopper or, if the pressure is too great, channeling some through lines to as many as four collection ships.

Allen said the testing will also help prepare for the hoped-for permanent fix by the relief wells. The mapping of the sea floor that was done to prepare for the cap test and the pressure readings will also help them determine how much mud and cement will be needed to seal off the well underground.

Drill work was stopped on one relief well because it was not clear what effect the testing of the cap could have on it. Work on the other relief well had already been stopped according to plan.

The government estimates 1.5 million to 2.5 million gallons are leaking every day.

As of Thursday, the 86th day of the disaster, between 93.5 million and 184.3 million gallons of oil had spewed into the Gulf since the Deepwater Horizon rig leased by BP exploded April 20, killing 11 workers.

A talk given at the "Debunking the War on Terror" Symposium on July 14th

The War on Terror Within

1 The more pain we inflict on others the more we become familiar with evil, aggression and brutality.

1.1  The more cruel we are towards others, the more devastated we are by the possibility that  the subjects of our brutality may also be as nasty as we happen to be.

1.2   According to Freud this is what projection is all about.

1.2.1 Otto Weininger refines it, 'we hate in others, that which we don't like in ourselves' he says.

1.3  As it happens, the dynamic of projection is amplified once the subject of our terror is hopeless and defenseless.

1.3.1 The reason is obvious. The more hopeless the subject of our terror is, the more we are inclined to face our relentless viciousness first hand.

2      Israeli treatment of the Palestinians is a devastating example of the above. The more hopeless and defenseless the Palestinians are, the more vicious the Israeli becomes.

2.1   And yet, the more vicious the Israeli is, the more he or she is horrified by 'terror'.

3      In reality, the Israelis are actually horrified by their own cruelty which they project onto others.

4      The recent cold-blooded murder of 9 peace activists in the high seas by Israeli Navy commandos was nothing but a shocking exposure of that lethal dynamic. The more ethically transparent, innocent and harmless the humanitarian mission to Gaza is, the more lethal the Israeli becomes.

CAN A RABBI LIE ABOUT APARTHEID?

CAN A RABBI LIE ABOUT APARTHEID?

Another lying rabbi  (Chief Rabbi of South Africa)

By Khalid Amayreh

The shipyard dogs of Zionism get ferociously mad whenever Israel is described as a racist and apartheid state. They argue rather vehemently that it is unfair and unjust to describe the deformed pariah entity as an apartheid state, citing the fact that non-Jews in Israel are accorded equal political rights and are allowed to vote.

Well, I think we do a great injustice  to language when we call Israel an apartheid state because the Zionist regime is far more nefarious than all the apartheid and discrimination in the world combined.

Theoretically, Israel does give some rights to non-Jewish citizens. However, when these rights are dealt with in practice, they are effectively devoid of  any substance. In fact, non-Jews are accorded citizenship in Israel  only in exchange for coming to terms with Jewish supremacy and inherent discrimination against them. After all, the state is defined as Jewish first and only democratic second, meaning that in any conflict between the "Jewish" and "democratic" aspects of the state, the Jewish component will always come first.

So what is the point of having rights and privileges that are used solely for propaganda purposes and not meant to be implemented in any genuine manner?

Besides,  "democracy" goes for the Jews, while  "Jewish supremacy" is smacked in the face of the native Arab community?

In addition, we all know that democracy can produce criminal and racist  laws. Fascism is often of a populist nature, especially  in the absences  of constitutional  checks and balances which don't exist in Israel.

Hitler, we must remember,  came to power via the ballot boxes. And many of the anti-Jewish laws  in Germany in  the early and mid 1930s were passed by democratically-elected parliaments just the Israeli Knesset is doing these days.

Today, the "democratic" Israeli Knesset passes inherently racist laws allowing the deportation of non-Jewish citizens, the confiscation of non-Jewish  property, and the systematic persecution of non-Jews.  In other words, the outer form is democracy but the substance is fascism in its ugliest form.

In a recent article published in the Jerusalem Post, a mouthpiece of Gush Emunim, the Nazi-minded settler movement,  Warren Goldstein, a visiting Rabbi from South Africa, claimed that "the accusation that Israel is apartheid is probably one of the most just accusations that could be made."

Well, this is a brazen lie. Israel has separate roads for Palestinians and Jews. Israel has separate laws for Palestinians and Jews in the Wes Bank. The Israeli justice system doesn't accord equal treatment to  Jews and Palestinians. A Jew convicted of murdering a Palestinian benefits from all  conceivable extenuating circumstances and is always given the benefit of the doubt, while Palestinian suspects are declared guilty even if proven innocent. Indeed, Jewish soldiers and settlers who have murdered innocent Palestinians are routinely set free after a brief symbolic period of  detention or declared unfit to stand trial, or as usual acquitted of any wrong doing.

We are not talking about a few isolated cases. In fact, this is the modus operandi of the Israeli justice system. Ask any human rights observer in occupied Palestine, and they will tell you volumes about the Nazi nature of the Israeli justice system.

In many cases, the burden of proof is the  sole responsibility of the victim's family. This is not a genuine legal process aimed at establishing the truth, but rather a sinister trick aimed at enabling Jewish murderers to escape with impunity or at least circumvent the due process.

For example, when a Jewish settler or soldier abducts a Palestinian boy and subjects him to torture, including firing at his legs or feet,  away from the eyes of the media, the soldier, if caught,  is not really punished for torturing the victim, but rather for failing to ensure that no cameramen or witnesses were watching the criminal act. So the real crime is not the abduction and shooting of an innocent person, but rather not properly hiding the abominable act.

In case,  the victim's family is poor, e.g. can't pay the heavy costs of lengthy litigation, the murderer is set free for lack of sufficient evidence. God knows how many thousands of innocent Palestinians have been  killed in cold blood by Jewish thugs and the thugs are set free.

The Rabbi says that while the South African apartheid regime was evil, it is morally offensive to compare Israel to apartheid in any way.

Again this is an obscene lie by a so-called rabbi who is expected to make a distinction between veracity and mendacity.

In fact, we do a great injustice to apartheid when  we compare it with Israel. Apartheid is segregationalist while Israel is eradicationist. Apartheid, at least in South Africa, wanted to keep the races apart, but Israel's ultimate goal is to ethnically cleanse and uproot  the native Palestinians, either by way of physical extermination as in Dir Yasin or by way of expulsion and mass deportation. In fact, Israel is more comparable to Nazi Germany than to the defunct South African apartheid regime.

Gerald Kaufman, an ex- British  Jewish  Parliamentarian, noted a few years ago  that Israeli atrocities in Gaza and south Lebanon made the Star of David look like the Swastika of Hitler.

Undoubtedly, the apartheid regime in South Africa, which was Israel's chief  and close ally in the Black continent, was repulsive in every conceivable aspect. But it was not more evil than Israel. The notorious regime of ill repute  never used White phosphorous against civilians,  never demolished thousands of black homes in order to silence opposition to apartheid. It never deported millions of native Black South  Africans as Israel has done to  the Palestinians.

In fact, Israel committed more crimes per capita than any other country in the world. Israel, one may solemnly and candidly claim, is a huge crime against humanity.

The racist rabbis goes on, trying to make evil look good and ugliness look beautiful.

He claims that the problem in occupied Palestine is actually no more than just a border dispute between the Jewish people and the Muslim world.

"You have a border dispute between the Jewish people, represented by the state of Israel, and the Muslim world, where to draw the 1967 borders. Israel has tried time and again to resolve that dispute and to make successful negotiations around that."

Again, the so-called rabbi is acting as a public relations officer for Israeli Nazism. He easily forgets that Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza Strip along with East Jerusalem in a war of aggression in 1967. He easily forgets that Israel, instead of responding positively to repeated  Arab and Palestinian peace offers, including the latest Arab Peace Initiative, has been busy  stealing Arab land and building Jewish-only settlements for fanatical Jews indoctrinated in Jewish supremacy.

Does a state that steals its neighbors land, and transfers its citizens to live on land that belongs to another people really want peace?

Finally, the so-called rabbi tries to assure himself that Israel is a just cause.

"We all know that the various governments of Israel have made mistakes in the past, there is a lot of self-criticism and self-analysis in the Israeli press. But what we need to be proud of as Jews is the justice of the cause of the state of Israel.?

What Just cause is this idiot talking about? How can the cause of a state that is based on ethnic cleansing, mass murder, and land theft and lying be just? Or perhaps the Talmudic sage thinks that all the property of non-Jews belongs to Jews because God created the entire universe for the sake and benefit of the Jew?!!!

I really don't understand how these so-called rabbis have the moral chutzpah to invoke morality whenever they try to justify Israeli Nazism. I don't know what morality they are talking about.

Well, the Nazis, too, thought their cause was moral.

18 Israeli Families Control 60% of Nation's Corporate Equity

Israeli economist Shir Hever, a researcher for the Alternative Information Center, was recently interviewed by RealNews TV about the relationship between economic issues and social control in Israel.  One astonishing fact he noted was that 18 Israeli families control fully 60% of the equity value of all Israeli companies.  Their wealth is concentrated in the

Israelis file $1.2 billion suit against Al Jazeera

July 13, 2010

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- A group of Israelis has filed a $1.2 billion lawsuit in U.S. federal court against the Al Jazeera news network.

Ninety-one Israeli plaintiffs, civilians who were injured during the monthlong 2006 Second Lebanon War or are relatives of victims, are charging in their suit that the Qatar-based network's war coverage was designed to help Hezbollah. Al Jazeera has offices in New York.

The suit filed Monday in Manhattan Federal Court  says that Al Jazeera, in violation of the Israeli military censorship rules, reported during live coverage the location of missile strikes on Israel, enabling Hezbollah to better aim ensuing missiles.

One plaintiff, a resident of Safed, was struck twice by missiles -- on his house and on his car -- on the first day of the conflict, Ynet reported.

Hezbollah fired about 4,000 rockets into Israel during the Second Lebanon War. One hundred and fifty nine Israelis and 1,200 people in Lebanon were killed.
